Day 63

Today I learned about the Maasai people’s culture and customs. This video talks about their controversial circumcision ceremonies for girls, and apparently boys undergo the same thing.

Today I meditated for 12 minutes on the theme of gratitude. There are countless things to be thankful for (i.e. being alive, family, friends, education, a home, food, safety, freedom, the weather, a hot shower, electricity, books, trees, health, the ability to see/hear/feel/think, past experiences, future opportunities, the present moment…..), and taking the time to cultivate appreciation for them can be very beneficial. (Bonus! Check out this article that does an excellent job of describing what it really means to meditate.)

“Cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you, and give thanks continuously. And because all things have contributed to your advancement, you should include all things in your gratitude.”

-Ralph Waldo Emerson

Today I acted kindly by encouraging someone in a cashier line-up to go before me.
