Today I learned about the clockwork theory of the universe, endorsed by notable minds such as Kepler, Galileo, and Descartes. The basic idea is that a clockmaker makes a clock, which then operates on its own. Although the clock behaves as if it has a purpose—with each component performing a duty so that the machine functions—it does not; the purpose remains in the clockmaker. The metaphor is that God is the clockmaker and the universe is a clock operating according to predictable principles (e.g. physics). In other words, God made the universe, then science took control. Intriguing theory.
Today I meditated for 10 minutes.
Today I acted kindly by picking up and throwing away all the litter on the ground during my walk home. I was shocked and appalled at the amount of litter!
