Today I learned why yawns are contagious. Well, I learned a few different theories of why yawns are contagious. This one surprised me: there is evidence suggesting that contagious yawning indicates empathy and therefore promotes social bonding. Likewise, it may be due to mirror neurons (neuroscience FTW!). Alternatively, contagious yawning may be a survival instinct (logic: if everyone else is yawning, there must be some adaptive reason for me to yawn too).
Today I meditated for 17 minutes.
Today I acted kindly by putting coins in the laundry machine in my building for whoever would use it next and leaving a hand-written note that said, “Have a lovely evening!” — signed with a smiley face.
